There are various stories as to where this design originates from as some say that it relates to stories about the labyrinth where the Minotaur roamed while others believe that the design is a reference to the Maeander River that runs through Asia Minor. Either way, it is a distinctly Greek design that can be seen on various things from home decor to vases. In this piece it is further accented by a brushed finish and bordered by a groove with milgrain inset.
